Welcome to the WildWings Winter 2017 Newsletter

Whilst winter still has us in it’s grip, spring is not far away now, our first summer migrants should be back in the next few weeks….. The travel realities of Britexit have bitten, the Pound has dropped against most world currencies but with our PM about to pull the official ‘trigger’, we may at last see a slow but hopefully steady recovery, especially against the US Dollar. In the meantime we have some special deals for you including a couple of last minute offers if you are quick.

Our 2018 programme is falling into place nicely, this newsletter contains the first of some new bird & wildlife cruises, with more new trips to follow over the coming months. We hope to see you onboard……

If you need more information or have any questions that the website doesn’t answer, then simply pick up the phone and talk to us! 0117 9658 333

West Africa Pelagic 2018 NEW!

We are delighted to have exclusively secured some cabins on this rare voyage from Cape Verde to Holland, sailing via The Canary, Salvage and Deserta’s Islands back to Northern Europe. Fully escorted by a WildWings leader, early booking is required as this voyage is subject to minimum numbers with a review date of the end of May this year. We will seek the special seabirds and cetaceans of Macronesia and the North Atlantic, with some optional land-birding on offer in Cape Verde for a number of the endemics too. Click here

Western Pacific Odyssey 2018 – The Full Voyage returns!

We are also delighted to confirm the return of the full WPO next year, from New Zealand all the way up to Japan. This fantastic voyage was conceived and planned by Chris Collins and WildWings and first ran back in 2007. A superb collection of Polar, Tropical and Temperate seabirds are on offer, plus a selection of island endemics including Kagu, not to mention whales, dolphins and beautiful Pacific skies. Special early booking prices applicable for WildWings customers. Click here

Amazon 2018 – Primates and Parrots NEW!

Following on from the success of our Remote Amazon Cruises, we are introducing a second itinerary for 2018, with a strong emphasis on primates (over 30 species occur) and parrots, along with a multitude of other birds, animals and wildlife. This will be an occasional voyage only, due to the need to reposition the vessel at the end. This is a spring departure and also offers an optional pre-cruise trip to a floating Amazon Lodge for even more primates and birds. Richard Webb will be joining our usual onboard team of Chris and Regina. Click here

 2017 What Else is Left?

If you are still looking to get away this year, we have a few places available on a variety of trips. In late April we have one or two places left on both Hungary in Spring and our Asian Spring Migration spectacular, Beidaihe and Happy Island, China. Check out Mark’s trip report and species list for 2016, you’ll want to go! Just one place left on our Poland in Spring trip, which has been running for over 25 years now…. Our budget expedition cruise from Scotland to Spitsbergen still has a few cabins available, join Nigel in our quest for Polar Bears and much more, from only £1565 per person (plus flights home). Our Birdwatch Magazine, Brown Fish Owl Special to Turkey is full again, but we will run a second trip, subject to a minimum of only six people, from 24 – 29 June. If you want to go, contact us and get your name on the list! Our expanded Mammal and Birds programme has two places left on South Africa in September, and just one place available on our new Sichuan, China tour in October.

Conservation Update

We continue our support of ‘front-line’ bird and wildlife conservation with another four figure cheque going to the RSPB’s Albatross Task Force just before Christmas. This was largely comprised of donations from WildWings, for each passenger we send to the Antarctic plus donations made by our clients throughout the year, paid with their deposits and or holiday balances. (Thank you again). The 2015 OBC-WildWings Conservation award funded a study of Rufous-necked Hornbills in Bhutan and we have just agreed the 2016 Award will go to a project studying Sarus Cranes in Nepal. At Birdfair 2017 (18th – 20th August 2017) we will have some staff from Sea Shepherd with us on stand, a double-reason to visit Marquee 2.
