PRESS RELEASE 21ST JUNE 2004 Sub-Orbital Space Flights The Dawn of a new era in Tourism.
22nd June 2004
WildWings Space Travel congratulates Burt Rutan and his team at Scaled Composites following yesterdays historic flight in their reusable launch vehicle, SpaceShipOne, into sub-orbital space. Upon separation from its carrier aircraft (White Knight) at 50,000 feet, SpaceShipOne used its single rocket to thrust itself to 100 kilometers (62 miles) above the Mojave Desert in California and after three minutes in weightlessness, SpaceShipOne returned safely to Earth. This historic event was the first space flight flown by a spaceship entirely built and financed privately. They have paved the way for us all to become private space explorers and for each of us to enjoy the ultimate view of our home planet.
WildWings have been taking advance bookings for Sub-Orbital Space Flights since 1997, current retail price £57,000 with a booking deposit of £6000. (All advance payments are protected by a Trust Account.) The first British booking for a commercial space flight was made by Dr Madsen Pirie in April 1998.
In the weeks following the first flight, it is projected that SpaceShipOne will make its X-PRIZE flight attempts, and John Brodie-Good will personally escort WildWings currently signed up, pioneering Sub-Orbital clients to witness one of these flights, whilst they continue to await their own ascent towards the stars.
