Client quote: “We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pax and experienced some excellent birding in the company of extremely able guides” J.C. April 10
Your day at Pax Guest House starts as the sun rises, the forest choir awakens and the birds start to appear, and finishes before dinner with a rum punch under the stars on the veranda in the evening, watching the setting sun.
Don't forget to spend time around the guesthouse itself, a tropical nature reserve in its own right. Gerard and the gardeners have done wonders since our first visit many years ago, with the hummingbirds being offered the flower species they like in different areas, thirteen species to date. Many other birds can be enjoyed at close quarters from the terraces or trails around the garden. You can explore the forest on the estate too. Birds of prey are another speciality of the house, terraces and valley. Another reason to spend time on the estate means you can enjoy one of Oda's island famous, afternoon teas, with delicious home baked cakes and breads (including her top secret recipe Chocolate Cake!) Early morning coffee is included for our guests on the birding package. Enjoy memorable birding excursions around the island; and don't forget the nesting turtles in season too.
Birds are everywhere, in the gardens, the sky and the forest below. The Hummingbird Terrace is the normal gathering place for birders in the early evening before dinner and gives you a beautiful view of the town of Tunapuna below. After dinner, often under the stars, tea or coffee is served, together with a bird log, socialising and occasionally a guest lecturer. From the veranda Tropical Screech-Owl and Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl maybe audible and have been seen hawking insects. The owner/managers, Gerard and Oda will ensure your stay is relaxed and enjoyable and you will want to join the many that have already returned.
We have represented Pax Guest House for a number of years now, and its reputation continues to spread especially by word of mouth with many repeat visitors. Gerard, Oda and their staff really do offer one of the warmest welcomes anywhere, you are made to be part of the family. This is witnessed by their non-stop popularity when they attend the British Birdwatching Fair with us most years. Bill Oddie and Sir David Attenborough are both big fans and past guests. Our air packages to Pax now start from only £999 per person full board! A flexible year-round programme of fully guided excursions led by the team including Kenny for birds, forms the famous birding package with prices from only £1499 per person sharing a twin room with washbasin. Private facility rooms are also available for only £99 per person for the week. This super value holiday includes six days of guided birding, visiting the best sites on the island. The property is simple and rustic, but comfortable and welcoming. Extend your stay; combine with Asa Wright and Tobago. The birding package can be operated on any date on request. We can arrange any combination of property you wish, and we will always quote at the best prices. For groups and private parties, the Birding Package itinerary can also be customised to suit.
