Client quote: “This was paradise and Regina the Queen of Bliss! Im smiling just thinking about it”
Situated on the edge of Tobago’s primary rainforest, surrounded by wild heliconias, bamboo stands and on the higher slopes, ancient forest trees, set in it’s own secluded valley, lies the delightful Cuffie River Nature Retreat, managed by your host, Regina and her team. You are woken by only the sounds of the birds in the forest as dawn breaks. Within the trails and tracks of the property most of Tobago’s special birds can be found as well as a number of species which are scarce on Trinidad. Blue-backed Manikins lek close to the property itself, White-tailed Sabrewings can be found in the forest, Rufous-tailed Jacamars and Blue-crowned Motmots are common. The male manikins displaying for the female’s attentions is one of highlights of the avian world, even non-birding partners would find it hard not to be impressed. Other desired species include nesting Gray-throated Leaftosser and Great Black Hawk.
The property has 10 very comfortable and spacious rooms, each with a balcony overlooking the forest with private bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. WildWings guests enjoy three superb meals a day, a guided walk with the Retreat’s guide Desmond, who knows the birds and natural history of the forests and is a mine of information about Tobago generally. The property has a pleasant lounge area with TV for those that need it. Terraces with chairs overlook one side of the valley. The outdoor pool is a welcome treat after a good morning’s walk with Desmond in the forest. Take a shower, followed by a light lunch and then a dip in the pool, paradise indeed. You can also bird from the pool and sundeck, with great views for sky watching for raptors and parrots flying over the forested valley and hillsides.
The only real problem with this property is you may not want to leave and you will certainly want to return. A look inside the guest book says it all, highly recommended.
