West Africa Pelagic 2015
This short pelagic, offers an inexpensive introduction to Expedition Cruising, sailing from the Cape Verde Islands, via the coast of West Africa, through the Canary Islands, calling by the Salvage and Deserta Islands, before finishing in Madeira. We will seek out the seabird specialities of the region, Cape Verde, Scopoli’s, Barolo’s & Boyd’s Shearwaters, White-faced and Madeiran Storm-Petrels, Fea’s, Deserta’s, possibly Zino’s plus Bulwer’s Petrels. We plan two days north along the continental shelf edge off West Africa to see if we can find Arctic breeding seabirds heading north to their summer homes. The first two departures have encountered spectacular movements of Sabine’s Gulls, skuas and terns, with birds swirling all around the ship at times. Both previous trips have also yielded over 10 species of whales and dolphins. This eight night voyage is on the very comfortable Plancius, and our man onboard will be Simon Cook. This voyage will be subject to minimum numbers, so early booking is recommended. 29th April – 7th May 2015.
